  • This exquisitely conceived scene details three fin-du-siécle women, perhaps a mother and her daughters; in the theatre audience, engulfed in a performance. The supposedly casual atmosphere of the Café-concert, a new phenomenon of the Parisian society at the time, is hinted by a man standing up a few rows ahead; and the slight smile of the profiled woman’s face.
